Makarios comes from the Greek word “μακάριος” (makários), meaning “blessed” or “fortunate.” Appearing dozens of times throughout the Greek New Testament, Makarios is more than simply a word to be defined. It describes a state of being: a blessedness that comes from God and a deep sense of favor found in Him.
Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount beautifully represents the meaning of Makarios when He says, “Blessed are…” Through these teachings, Makarios embodies the love of God, His blessings, and the joy found in walking with Him.
